Her name is Linda.......and sometimes she turns purple. Not very often, but when she does, it's enough to excite comments!

Purple's Pride was formed as part of Purple's fight against the devastating affects of Multiple Sclerosis. The group was formed in 1998 and consisted of Jennifer, Sylvia, Brandi, Amy, and Purple herself. In 1999 Irys joined the group.

They originally tried a walk-a-thon, but it didn't work out very well. When Purple heard about the Bike Tour she decided to try it and she, along with the rest of the group, thoroughly enjoyed it.

Purple's fight is personal. Her husband, Galen, is a victim of MS. Diagnosed in 1992, Galen has struggled to deal with a disease that is unpredictable in the extreme and--so far--incurable. But through the support and love of his wife and the rest of the family, he maintains a cheerful attitude.

It wasn't always that way. Shortly after Galen was diagnosed, Purple was in a car accident. The resulting injuries left her bed-ridden for a month in the hospital. After she came home, she was in a wheel chair for six months. With typical Purple strength, she finished her college, got her degree, and started working.

Getting on the bike for the first time was frightening for her---and the family. Once, she fell, and I think everyone came close to having heart attacks. She was so mad she was bawling, but unhurt. She trained and trained for the Bike Tours, in rain, in sun, and riding against the wind. Purple's unfailing strength, hope, and courage are an inspiration to her children and grandchildren---and the husband she rides for.
